Community Health Nursing
The department of community health nursing reaches out to the people in the community. It plays a major role to serve the people in the adopted community areas: Anichakuppam, Muthialpet, Allankuppam & Kalapet. The department works to identify the physical social, economic, environmental and cultural practices which hinder health and the related health problems.
The department trains B.Sc., P.B.B.Sc. & M.Sc. Nursing students to develop knowledge & skill in Community Health Nursing and also the PhD scholars. Students participate and conduct activities such as school health and mass health programmes and all National Health Programmes by Govt of India ie pulse polio, family welfare , etc. And also observes Breast Feeding Week, Old age day, AIDSday, leprosy day,malaria day,population day,family day etc., by conducting exhibition, scientific session,quiz, role play, debates, signing campaign,health education & cultural programmes. It incorporates evidence based Nursing practice and identify’s the areas of research in the field of Community Health Nursing. It also conducts continuing nursing education such as journal club presentation.

The vision of Community health Nursing department, College of Nursing - Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences is to serve the community through holistic health services, to provide promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative health care and follow a system of education with the principles of ethics, care and research, to Learn with dignity & Serve with Loyalty
MISSION
1. Provide excellent health services to the community by establishing health centres in the adopted villages and give holistic nursing care to prevent diseases and improve their quality of life with the available resources 2. To facilitate optimum learning experience to all level of students (B.Sc, P.B.B.Sc, M.Sc-Nursing) in both theory and practicals so as to enable them to practice their profession with ethics, empathy, compassion & excellence
PHILOSOPHY
We believe that the students trained in the department will treat minor ailments and provide appropriate teachings as preventive and promotive measures and community health nurse should collaborate with health team and work as a liaison between all. They should also develop basic competence in research and apply it in the field practice
